Nigeria Stories 2018

Believe in greatness

Made and launched in the weeks leading up to the 2018 FIFA World Cup, DStv’s Nigeria Stories is a series of inspirational short films about Nigeria’s star players aimed at inspiring hope and galvanising support for the team.

As the only side featuring at the World Cup from within Multichoice’s broadcasting region, Nigeria played a pivotal role in DStv's World Cup campaign.

Our stories needed to keep soccer fans across Africa engaged in Russia 2018 by building awareness and excitement about Nigeria’s World Cup campaign. They also needed to maintain DStv brand awareness by reminding viewers that the satellite provider would be flighting every game played at the global showcase live.

Filmed in Lagos,London and Wroclaw, Poland, the stories profile major figures in Nigeria’s football story, including African soccer legends Sunday Oliseh and JJ Okocha, young superstars Wilfred Ndidi, Kelechi Iheanacho and Odion Ighalo and veteranVictor Moses in what would be his Super Eagles swansong.

Together they told stories of the sacrifices and struggles made to achieve their dream of playing on the world stage, their pride at representing the Nigerian national side, and the unique ability of football to transform young lives.

The series proved hugely popular. The campaign launch video featuring Sunday Oliseh pulled almost twice as many viewers as the equivalent programming for the 2014 event when flighted on DStv’s Supersport channels, and drew strong engagement with the content on all Supersport’s social media channels.

T+W’s mix of player interviews and carefully produced re-enactments brought authenticity to our work and allowed African soccer fans to dream with the Super Eagles as they headed for Russia to share in the joy and pain of competing against the world’s best.

It’s amazing what you can achieve when you are chasing greatness.
